Beautiful Bangles

Learn how to file, shape, solder and hammer simple wire into a beautiful bangle.

About the Class

The Beautiful Bangles class is a wonderful introduction to silver jewellery making, helping you build confidence with many of the core techniques used again and again at the bench.

Using silver wire, you’ll learn how to saw, solder, shape, texture, and finish your bangles step by step, while creating elegant hammered bangles that are lovely worn individually or stacked together. It’s the kind of project that quickly becomes addictive — once you’ve made one, you’ll soon want to make more for yourself, friends, and family too.

This class is especially good for beginners because it combines so many essential jewellery making skills into one satisfying project, helping you practise techniques that will support many future designs as your confidence grows.

The Beautiful Bangles class is part of the Jewellery Making for Beginners series. You can also purchase the full series as a course bundle, which is a great way to build your skills steadily while saving money compared to buying the classes individually.

If you need any extra help as you work your way through the classes do join us over on The Jeweller's Bench Café group over on Facebook - the perfect place to ask for advice and to show off what you've been making.

You will need:

Materials:
The average bangle needs between 200mm and 220mm of wire.
Round, oval, square, rectangular or half-round wires with a minimum of 2mm diameter are best for this project, with round and oval wires being easiest for beginners. Do remember that the thicker the wire, the more effort will be needed to shape it, so don't jump straight to 4mm wire for your first bangle!

Equipment: (all the jewellery making kit listed here can be used for many different projects)
* Soldering kit - see here for more details
* Bangle sizers (or a narrow round bangle that fits you)
* Binding wire
* Ruler and Sharpie
*Jeweller’s Saw
* Bench peg
* Wire cutters
* 6" flat and half round files
* Engineer’s square
* Nylon jaw pliers
* Bangle mandrel
* Leather cushion
* Nylon or raw hide hammer
* Texturing hammers
* Emery paper
* For polishing - a tumble polisher or elbow grease and a silver polishing cloth.

An explanation of all the tools and materials that you need is included in the videos, and a downloadable equipment and materials list is available with the class.

Joanne Tinley

Tutor and Founder of The Jeweller's Bench

The Jeweller's Bench is run by Joanne Tinley. She has been making her own jewellery for as long as she can remember and left her first career as a school teacher to set up business as a  jewellery designer and tutor nearly 20 years ago. She is
self-taught and like many people started with wire and beads. Learning how to solder, however, opened up a whole new world of jewellery making,  one that she is keen to share!
