I use my 6" files daily, especially my half-round Vallorbe file - such a great make! However, I don't think they'd be quite so comfortable to use without the wooden handles I've added to them.
Jeweller's files are usually supplied without a handle so that you can choose the best size of handle to suit you, or even make your own. This short video will show you just how easy it is to fit your chosen handle securely to make the file comfortable in your hand. Just don't do this underneath a smoke detector!
This video class is just one in a collection of free tutorials. You can enrol on each one individually or enrol on the whole bundle so that you don't miss out on new classes!
To fit a wooden handle on your 6" file you will need:
* a 6" file and your chosen wooden handle
* a larger blow torch and a safe place to work
* safety glasses
Tutor and Founder of The Jeweller's Bench
The Jeweller's Bench is run by Joanne Tinley. She has been making her own jewellery for as long as she can remember and left her first career as a school teacher to set up business as a jewellery designer and tutor 15 years ago. She is
self-taught and like many people started with wire and beads. Learning how to solder, however, opened up a whole new world of jewellery making, one that she is keen to share!
