An Introduction to Soldering

All the hints and tips to get you started with soldering - with two practice projects

About the Tutorial

This Introduction to Soldering will give you many of the hints and tips that I teach in my studio, and is perfect for getting you started with soldering jewellery. The second part of the book  takes you through two projects - a simple pair of earrings and a lovely heart pendant - so that you can practise your new skills.

I hope that this book will give you the confidence to pick up a torch  and solder your first piece of jewellery, or give you some hints and  tips to help you to improve your skills. Three things to remember though. Firstly, everyone, now matter how experienced, melts a piece of work by accident every now and then. Secondly, practise makes perfect. And last but most definitely not least - have fun!

This tutorial ebook is just one in a growing collection. You can buy each one individually or buy on the whole bundle and save money at the  same time!

Tools and Materials

The ebook includes information about the basic tools needed to solder silver and copper,  the different types of solder available (and why there are different types!), how and why soldering works and some trouble-shooting tips for when it doesn’t go to plan.  Although I have focused throughout on soldering silver, the same information holds true for copper.

The ebook has 27 pages with 76 photos.

The Jeweller's Bench is run by Joanne Tinley. She has been making her own jewellery for as long as she can remember and left her first career as a school teacher to set up business as a  jewellery designer and tutor 15 years ago. She is
self-taught and like many people started with wire and beads. Learning how to solder, however, opened up a whole new world of jewellery making,  one that she is keen to share!
