Bird on a Branch Pendant

Sawing a simple silver pendant

About the Class

The Bird on a Branch class is a lovely beginner project for building confidence with sawing, soldering, texturing, and shaping silver.

In this class, you’ll learn how to saw — or pierce — shapes from within a sheet of silver to create a simple but elegant bird design full of movement and detail. A second design is also included, and templates are provided for both so that you can concentrate on building confidence with the techniques.

Sawing is one of the most important skills in jewellery making, and throughout the class I share the same hints and tips that I teach in my in-studio workshops to help you improve control, accuracy, and confidence with your saw.  And most importantly of all, remember that sawing is a skill that improves with practice. The more you do it, the more natural and enjoyable it becomes.

The Bird on a Branch pendant class is part of the Jeweller's Bench Membership - click here for more details.

If you need any extra help as you work your way through the classes do join us over on The Jeweller's Bench Café group over on Facebook - the perfect place to ask for advice and to show off what you've been making.

Joanne Tinley

Tutor and Founder of The Jeweller's Bench

The Jeweller's Bench is run by Joanne Tinley. She has been making her own jewellery for as long as she can remember and left her first career as a school teacher to set up business as a  jewellery designer and tutor nearly 20 years ago. She is
self-taught and like many people started with wire and beads. Learning how to solder, however, opened up a whole new world of jewellery making,  one that she is keen to share!
