Barcelona Ring - create a pearl ring

Add a rolling mill texture and a half-drilled pearl to a simple hammered ring

About the Class

Once you’ve learnt how to make simple hammered rings, the Barcelona Ring is a lovely next step, adding beautiful textures and a touch of colour with a half-drilled pearl.

This class is a gentle introduction to working with half-drilled pearls, which require different setting techniques from cabochon or faceted stones. I’ll guide you through the process step by step so that you can build confidence while creating a ring that feels elegant, tactile, and completely unique.

The class also includes rolling mill techniques, as the oval beneath the pearl has been textured using one of my own texture sheets. However, this design is wonderfully adaptable. The shape doesn’t have to be oval, the texture doesn’t have to come from a rolling mill, and the pearl certainly doesn’t have to be peacock grey.
Once you understand the techniques, you’ll be able to experiment and make the design your own.

The class includes downloadable guides to both the equipment and materials needed, making it easy to prepare before you begin.

This class assumes that you already have a good understanding of all the techniques covered in the Simple Hammered Rings class, and both classes are part of the Jeweller's Bench Membership - click here for more details.

If you need any extra help as you work your way through the classes do join us over on The Jeweller's Bench Café group over on Facebook - the perfect place to ask for advice and to show off what you've been making.

Tutor and Founder of The Jeweller's Bench

The Jeweller's Bench is run by Joanne Tinley. She has been making her own jewellery for as long as she can remember and left her first career as a school teacher to set up business as a  jewellery designer and tutor nearly 20 years ago. She is
self-taught and like many people started with wire and beads. Learning how to solder, however, opened up a whole new world of jewellery making,  one that she is keen to share!
